Coordinate a HERO PACK program for Operation: Military Kids (OMK)

The OMK organization assists children whose family is in the military, especially those with deployed parents. Girl Scouts provides them with information about scouting and how they can join us. OMK provides the Girl Scouts with service project ideas and programs.

Hero Packs are backpacks that are filled with a handwritten note from a peer thanking them for their service, fun items such as a stuffed animal or frisbee, and a way for the kid to stay in contact with their deployed parent such as disposable camera, stationary, a photo album or a journal.

Hero Packs are a tangible expression of support for military families from their communities. Hero Packs are filled by non-military youth and community organizations with mementos and items designed to help keep military kids connected with their deployed parent. They are a way to hand-deliver a salute to military children and youth for their strength and sacrifices while parents are deployed.

If your troop is interested in running a Hero Pack Program, please contact Elyse Roland, Field Director, at eroland@gscnc.org. A special program patch (to be worn on the back of the vest or sash) can be designed by the troop and ordered with the OMK / Hero pack design if the troop is interested.
